Mino Obigiwasin Anicinape Child & Family Services is a non-profit corporation founded on July 4, 2019, by four Anicinape communities (Kitcisakik, Pikogan, Long Point and Lac-Simon). The organization provides services for children and families, including youth protection services, to ensure the preservation of these children’s and families’ cultural identity and dignity. Mino Obigiwasin is governed by its own by-laws and policies that guide all of its activities.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the authority of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall, strategic and operational management of Mino Obigiwasin. The Executive Director support the fulfillment of the mission, the organization’s visibility, and the delivery of services to children, youth and families from the four member Anicinape communities.

The Executive Director serves as an inspiring leader, promoting strong governance, effective operations, and positive relationships with community, government, and institutional partners. They uphold services that reflect Anicinape values, realities, and culture.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic management and governance:

  • Develop strategic planning based on clear, achievable priorities.
  • Support the organization’s growth in alignment with established objectives.
  • Assess the organization’s performance and propose continuous improvements.
  • Oversee Mino Obigiwasin’s governance remains current through the review of policies and procedures.

Organizational development:

  • Speak on behalf of the organization in ways that reflect community priorities.
  • Foster strong, ongoing relationships with Chiefs and communities to align services with local needs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with government and strategic partners to anticipate and assess how upcoming regulations or policies may affect Mino Obigiwasin’s operations.
  • Represent Mino Obigiwasin at the local, regional and provincial levels to promote the organization.
  • Identify growth opportunities for new funding avenues as well as new programs and services.

Administrative and financial management:

  • Make sure budget planning supports strategic objectives.
  • Present budget priorities and results to the Board of Directors.
  • Implement Mino Obigiwasin’s decisions and financial management policy.
  • Ensure sound financial management of all Mino Obigiwasin programs and services.

Human resources management:

  • Maintain a positive, respectful and engaging work environment.
  • Identify staffing needs and support skills development.
  • Foster an organizational culture aligned with the organization’s values.
  • Ensure services reflect the needs and cultural realities of Anicinape families.

Organizational management:

  • Oversee the preparation of an annual activity report and programs & services report for the Board of Directors and members.
  • Negotiate and manage Mino Obigiwasin’s human, material and financial resources.
  • Perform any other duties required by the position and the organization.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or 10 years of experience in the child and family services field.
  • 3 to 5 years of management experience.
  • Experience working with First Nations.
  • Bilingual (English and French)
  • Knowledge of the following is considered an asset:
    • Youth Protection Act
    • Adoption and guardianship
    • Youth Criminal Justice Act and the Act respecting health services and social services (ARHSSS)
    • Principles and application of Bill C-92 (S.C. 2019, c. 24)
  • Able to promote change and comfortable with risk management.
  • Strong communication skills and attentive listening

  • Methodical, structured, rigorous and open-minded

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Permanent full-time position, 35 hours per week
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including group insurance with employer contribution after 3 months, and a pension plan (RBA) after 6 months with an employer contribution of 18,2%
