Mino Obigiwasin Anicinabe Child and Family services was set up to provide child and families services to the Anicinape population. This follows an agreement signed with CISSSAT to manage youth protection for the 4 Anicinape communities: Kitcisakik, Lac Simon, Abitibiwinni (Pikogan) and Long Point (Winneway). Mino Obigiwasin's vision is to provide all Anicinape children and families with a stable, safe, happy and culturally rooted living environment.

JOB SUMMARY

In keeping with the mission, orientations, values and general policies of Mino Obigiwasin Services Enfance et Famille Anicinape, and under the authority of the post-majority coordinator, the incumbent provides support and guidance to young aboriginals (aged 16-25 inclusive) who have been in youth protection care and are leaving the system, with a view to helping them become independent, responsible adults. He/she applies educational techniques by using everyday activities, organizing, coordinating and leading program activities, to ensure the learning and acquisition of appropriate attitudes and behaviors aimed at autonomy and the realization of a life plan.

ROLE AND RESPONSABILITIES

  • Help and accompany young people to guide them towards autonomy and the realization of their life plan;
  • Carry out in-depth analysis of young people's behaviour in their daily activities, with the aim of identifying their needs and abilities, so as to be able to set objectives and means of success;
  • Follow-up complex cases, analyze their specific needs, respond to their needs in terms of intervention, accompaniment and referral to the required services;
  • Carry out the necessary follow-ups to support the achievement of the objectives set with the user, according to variable and changing service intensities;
  • Publicize the support program by promoting it to the communities and organizations concerned;
  • Intervene with young people in a voluntary context, where they are free to accept or refuse the help offered by the program, and welcome them at all times, despite the history in their file;
  • Provide holistic learning and development opportunities delivered in a culturally safe manner, to foster cultural revitalization, identity and reconnection with the community.;
  • Accompany, refer and direct users in order to give them access to their culture;
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and partners in emergency and crisis situations;
  • Participate in the development and improvement of the services provided by his/her team;

  • Perform any other tasks required for the position.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psycho-education or equivalent;
  • Relevant experience in youth protection intervention or Aboriginal community service;
  • Knowledge and experience in the First Nations environment, an asset;
  • Have an innovative approach to contribute to the implementation of a new program that meets the needs of adolescents and young adults while respecting Anicinape values and traditions;
  • Be at ease in a context of novelty and uncertainty in the implementation of a new program;
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, adapted to the needs of users, including occasional evening and weekend hours;
  • Bilingualism in French and English;
  • Class 5 driver's license.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • 35 hours by week
