Mino Obigiwasin Anicinabe Child and Family services was set up to provide child and families services to the Anicinape population. This follows an agreement signed with CISSSAT to manage youth protection for the 4 Anicinape communities: Kitcisakik, Lac Simon, Abitibiwinni (Pikogan) and Long Point (Winneway). Mino Obigiwasin's vision is to provide all Anicinape children and families with a stable, safe, happy and culturally rooted living environment.
JOB SOMMARY
In accordance with the mission, guidelines, values, and general policies of Mino Obigiwasin Services Enfance et Famille Anicinape, the incumbent provides culturally appropriate support to clients referred to the Kiwenishin resource who are monitored by the organization. They support the resource by working directly with individuals, families, service providers, and available resources, considering the specific realities of the member communities. Their role is to support both the resource's employees and the children and families in their daily lives, personal journeys, and healing, while promoting their autonomy and inclusion. This position emphasizes rehabilitation support, prevention, and proximity within the framework of a resource that welcomes children with mental health issues or intellectual disabilities.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the authority of the responsible of Winneway point of service, the social worker will be responsible for:
- Actively taking part in daily activities at the resource.
- Building bridges between families and services.
- Support young people and adults in their educational, therapeutic, or professional development through an intervention plan established in partnership with the individuals involved.
- Promote the safety, well-being, and dignity of Indigenous communities.
- Provide a reassuring presence in the living environment.
- Intervene in crises (e.g., suicidal crises) in collaboration with clinical teams.
- Participate in the development and implementation of children's intervention plans.
- Provide culturally safe support during difficult events.
- Organize or participate in cultural and community activities.
- Promote the integration of traditional practices into rehabilitation follow-ups.
- Work closely with partners, families, and social workers.
- Participate in committees, round tables, and clinical meetings with the teams involved.
- Write follow-ups and intervention notes and ensure ongoing communication with the teams.
- Be available to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and weekends, depending on the needs of the resource.
- Prevent situations that could compromise safety.
- Strengthen parenting and social skills.
- Foster collaboration and trust between families and services.
REQUIREMENTS
- Technical diploma in child and youth care, social work, criminology, delinquency intervention or equivalent.
- Relevant experience working with children with autism spectrum disorders and intellectual disabilities.
- Class 5 driver's license.
- Knowledge and experience in the First Nations community is an asset.
- Bilingualism in French and English.
- Ability to promote cultural safety and consider cultural issues and community values.
