Information officer and facilitator Anicinape

Mino Obigiwasin Child & Family Services Anicinape was established to provide child and family services to its population. This follows an agreement signed with CISSSAT to manage youth protection for the 4 Anicinape communities: Kitcisakik, Lac Simon, Abitibiwinni (Pikogan) and Long Point (Winneway). Mino Obigiwasin's vision is to provide all Anicinape children and families with a stable, safe, happy, and culturally rooted living environment.

JOB SUMMARY

In keeping with the organization's mission, orientations, values and general policies, the information officer and facilitator, under the IOF and PDSA coordinator, works with Mino Obigiwasin stakeholders and community members. He facilitates relations between caregivers and the public and educates and informs Anicinape parents about their rights and the youth protection system, all in a respectful and caring manner. He guides them towards the care and services they need.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Mediate in cases of dissatisfaction or conflict between parent(s) or child(ren) and youth protection services, including families fostering a child under the YPA.

  • Ensure compliance with the Complaints Handling Policy and applicable legislative provisions in collaboration with CISSSAT's Complaints and Service Quality Commissioner.
  • Promote partnerships between different departments by participating in the development or revision of collaborative protocols.
  • Inform parents and children whose situation has been reported to the Director of Youth Protection (DYP) or whose situation is likely to be reported to the DYP about their rights under the YPA, their roles and responsibilities as Anicinape parents, and the services available to support and accompany them.
  • Participate in community activities to inform and raise awareness:
  • o Youth protection.
  • o Front-line preventive services.
  • o Others communitys services.
  • Answering community members' questions about social services.
  • Plan and lead Wawiya meetings or other family conferences. The role of the Wawiya facilitator can be likened to that of a group leader.
  • Provide information on resources available in and outside the community.
  • Provide information on the laws governing youth protection services. Among other things, on the principles of the Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis children, youth and families (C-92);

Liaise and provide support to the CISSSAT Complaints Commissioner, the CDPDJ and the Public Protector if necessary.

Requirements :

Interest in the youth protection system and its enabling legislation (the Youth Protection Act);

Come from one of the 4 Anicinape member communities;

Knowledge of Anicinape culture;

Class 5 driver's license;

Patience, resourcefulness and creativity;

Comfortable with group facilitation;

Enjoys reading and writing;

Bilingualism French/English is an important asset;

Open to using anicinapemowin.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • 35 hours by week
