RESEARCH OFFICER

Mino Obigiwasin Anicinape Child & Family Services was established to provide child and family services to its population. This initiative follows an agreement signed with the CISSSAT for the management of youth protection services for the four Anicinape communities: Kitcisakik, Lac Simon, Abitibiwinni (Pikogan), and Long Point (Winneway). Mino Obigiwasin’s vision is to ensure that all Anicinape children and families have a stable, safe, and happy living environment rooted in their culture.

JOB SUMMARY

Mino Obigiwasin is seeking to fill a Research Officer position within the team responsible for developing the Anicinape Law. This is a full-time position (35 hours per week) under the supervision of the C-92 Coordinator and the Legal Advisor. In alignment with the organization’s mission, strategic directions, values, and general policies, the Research Officer plays an active role in preparing consultations with the Anicinape population served by Mino Obigiwasin, as part of the development of the Anicinape Law. The role also includes analyzing the data collected and contributing to methodological and strategic discussions related to the law’s development.

ROLE AND RESPONSABILITIES

  • Conduct literature reviews and identify promising initiatives related to Indigenous child and family services
  • Collaborate in the development of materials required for various community consultations
  • Participate in community consultations and ensure data collection
  • Contribute to the analysis of consultation results
  • Document the consultation process
  • Assist in drafting and submitting summaries of consultations, protocols, and outcome reports
  • Participate in development meetings as needed by the Anicinape Inakonigewin team
  • Perform any other related duties.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate degree (Master’s level) in Social Work, Psychoeducation, Criminology, or any other relevant academic discipline
  • A degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in Indigenous Studies is considered an asset
  • Experience working in Indigenous contexts
  • Relevant experience in youth protection or a related field
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Research Officer or Research Professional in one of the following fields: Social Work, Psychoeducation, Criminology, or another appropriate academic discipline
  • Proficiency in spoken and written French and English
  • Strong knowledge of research methodologies in Indigenous contexts
  • Solid understanding of child and family services in Indigenous settings
  • Good understanding of the health and social services sector, including its administration and legal framework
  • Proficiency in office software: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook.
