Financial assistant

Mino Obigiwasin – Anicinape Child & Family Services was established to provide child and family services to its population. This initiative follows an agreement signed with the CISSSAT for the management of youth protection services for the four Anicinape communities: Kitcisakik, Lac Simon, Abitibiwinni (Pikogan), and Long Point (Winneway). Mino Obigiwasin’s vision is to ensure that all Anicinape children and families have a stable, safe, and happy living environment rooted in their culture.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Director of Finance, the Financial Assistant provides administrative and operational support to the finance team. They assist in the preparation, verification, and updating of financial documents, and ensure the follow-up of accounting and budgetary transactions. The person in this role contributes to the production of financial reports, supports the management of accounts payable and receivable, and ensures compliance with internal procedures and deadlines.

ROLE AND RESPONSABILITIES

  • Verify accounts payable and receivable
  • Monitor the aging of accounts receivable
  • Participate in recurring payments as needed (e.g., rent, petty cash, etc.)
  • Review transportation invoices on a weekly basis
  • Verify payroll on a biweekly basis
  • Follow up on payroll, group insurance, and RBA (Retirement Benefits Agreement)
  • Process payroll-related remittances and payments (DAS, RBA, FTQ, group insurance, etc.)
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations
  • Record certain journal entries
  • Prepare month-end procedures and related reports
  • Prepare mandatory reports required by the funding agency
  • Participate in the budgeting process in collaboration with the Director of Finance:
    • Plan the annual budget
    • Monitor the budget on a monthly or quarterly basis, depending on the department

REQUIREMENT

  • College diploma (DEC) in Accounting or equivalent — relevant experience will be considered
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the field
  • Knowledge of Indigenous communities and contexts (an asset)
  • Excellent command of both French and English
  • Comfortable working with computer systems, including the Avantage accounting software
  • Strong proficiency in Office 365 tools, especially Excel
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple departments
  • Proactive, versatile, and detail-oriented
  • Ability to always maintain confidentiality and demonstrate discretion
  • Strong organizational and adaptability skills
