Community Outreach Worker

Mino Obigiwasin Anicinape Child and Family Services was established to provide child and family services to its population. This initiative follows an agreement signed with CISSSAT for the management of youth protection services for the four Anicinape communities: Kitcisakik, Lac Simon, Abitibiwinni (Pikogan), and Long Point (Winneway).

The vision of Mino Obigiwasin is to ensure that all Anicinape children and families live in a stable, safe, and nurturing environment rooted in their culture.

POSITION SUMMARY

In keeping with the mission, orientations, values, and general policies of Mino Obigiwasin Anicinape Child and Family Services, the incumbent provides culturally adapted support to individuals served by the organization. They act as a trusted link between individuals, families, service providers, and available resources, while considering the realities specific to the communities served.

Their role is to support individuals in their daily lives, personal journeys, and healing processes, while promoting autonomy and inclusion. Grounded in proximity and prevention, this position emphasizes presence, human connection, and day-to-day support.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the authority of the service manager, the outreach worker will :

  • Provide practical support in daily living activities as well as in the personal processes of the individuals supported.
  • Build and maintain trusting relationships, and act as a bridge between families, communities, and various services.
  • Support youth and adults in their educational, therapeutic, and professional pathways.
  • Promote the safety, well-being, and dignity of members of Indigenous communities.
  • Ensure a meaningful and reassuring presence in living environments, including foster families.
  • Intervene in crisis situations (e.g., suicidal ideation), in collaboration with clinical teams.
  • Assess suicide risk and contribute to identifying psychosocial challenges, including DEP-ADO screening tools.
  • Provide culturally safe support, particularly during difficult events or sensitive situations.
  • Organize and/or participate in cultural and community activities.
  • Promote the integration of traditional practices into interventions and follow-ups.
  • Work closely with partners, families, and social workers.
  • Participate in committees, roundtables, and clinical meetings.
  • Write intervention notes, ensure follow-ups, and maintain ongoing communication with teams.
  • Be available to work a variable schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Contribute to the prevention of situations where a child’s safety or development may be compromised.
  • Support the development of parenting and social skills.
  • Foster a climate of collaboration and trust between families and services.
  • Contribute to reducing judicialization by promoting support and guidance approaches.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Diploma in Social Work Techniques, Special Care Counselling, Youth Intervention, or equivalent.
  • Relevant experience in youth protection intervention.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with First Nations communities is an asset.
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset.
  • Ability to promote cultural safety and consider cultural realities and community values.

WORKING CONDITIONS

· Permanent full-time position (35 hours per week).
