Mino Obigiwasin Anicinabe Child and Family services was set up to provide child and families services to the Anicinape population. This follows an agreement signed with CISSSAT to manage youth protection for the 4 Anicinape communities: Kitcisakik, Lac Simon, Abitibiwinni (Pikogan) and Long Point (Winneway). Mino Obigiwasin's vision is to provide all Anicinape children and families with a stable, safe, happy and culturally rooted living environment.
JOB SUMMARY
In accordance with the mission, guidelines, values, and general policies of Mino Obigiwasin Services Enfance et Famille Anicinape, the incumbent provides culturally appropriate support to clients served by the organization. They act as a trusted link between individuals, families, service providers, and available resources, considering the specific realities of partner communities. Their role is to support individuals in their daily lives, personal journeys, and healing, while promoting their autonomy and inclusion. This position emphasizes support, prevention, and proximity, without the formal responsibility of clinical follow-up or case management.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the authority of the responsible of point of service, the social worker will be responsible for:
- Providing support in daily activities and personal matters.
- Building bridges between families and services.
- Supporting young people and adults in their educational, therapeutic, or professional development.
- Promote the safety, well-being, and dignity of Indigenous communities.
- Provide a reassuring presence in living environments and foster families.
- Intervene in crises (e.g., suicidal crises) in collaboration with clinical teams.
- Assess suicide risk and ADO PDs.
- Provide culturally safe support during difficult events.
- Organize or participate in cultural and community activities.
- Promote the integration of traditional practices into social follow-ups.
- Work closely with partners, families, and social workers.
- Participate in committees, round tables, and clinical meetings with the teams involved.
- Write follow-ups and intervention notes and ensure ongoing communication with teams.
- Be available to work variable hours, which may include evenings and weekends.
- Prevent compromising situations.
- Strengthen parenting and social skills.
- Promote collaboration and trust between families and services.
- Reduce judicialization by prioritizing supportive assistance.
REQUIREMENTS
- Technical diploma in child and youth care, social work, criminology, delinquency intervention or equivalent.
- Relevant experience working with children with autism spectrum disorders and intellectual disabilities.
- Class 5 driver's license.
- Knowledge and experience in the First Nations community is an asset.
- Bilingualism in French and English is an asset.
- Ability to promote cultural safety and consider cultural issues and community values.
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS
- Permanent full-time position, 35 hours per week.
