One position to be filled

Mino Obigiwasin – Anicinape Child and Family Services was established to provide child and family services to its population. This follows an agreement with CISSSAT for the administration of youth protection services for the four Anicinape communities: Kitcisakik, Lac Simon, Abitibiwinni (Pikogan) and Long Point (Winneway). Mino Obigiwasin’s vision is to ensure that all Anicinape children and families have a stable, safe and nurturing living environment rooted in culture.

POSITION SUMMARY

In accordance with the mission, directions, values and policies of Mino Obigiwasin – Anicinape Child and Family Services, and under the responsibility of the Family Support Services Coordinator, the Family Support Worker acts as a resource person and liaison between families, community members and Mino Obigiwasin services. The incumbent receives and addresses concerns regarding services, facilitates communication between parties, and contributes to ensuring that services are responsive to the needs of children and families.

RESPONSABILITÉS

  • Act as a resource person and facilitator for families, community members and Mino Obigiwasin staff;
  • Receive and address concerns regarding Mino Obigiwasin services and contribute to identifying solutions;
  • Act as a mediator in situations involving concerns or conflict between parents, children, foster families and youth protection services;
  • When required, support individuals in their dealings with the CISSSAT Complaints and Service Quality Commissioner, the Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse (CDPDJ), or the Québec Ombudsman;
  • Provide community members with information about youth protection services, preventive services, foster families, recruitment and available resources;
  • Participate in awareness and information activities within the communities, particularly regarding rights, recourse mechanisms and applicable legislation related to youth protection, including Bill C-92;
  • Foster collaboration among different services and partners, including through participation in the development or review of collaboration protocols;
  • Support the implementation of solutions and initiatives aimed at promoting the stability of children in their placement and preventing placement changes whenever possible;
  • Facilitate Wawiya meetings and family councils to promote communication, collaboration and the mobilization of the child’s and family’s support network.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Social Work, Psychoeducation or a related field;
  • Training in mediation is an asset;
  • Knowledge of Anicinape communities;
  • Knowledge of the youth protection system and its governing legislation (Youth Protection Act);
  • Comfortable providing intervention and facilitating group activities;
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence;
  • Bilingualism in French and English required;
  • Knowledge of Anicinapemowin is an asset.

  • Permanent, full-time position, 35 hours per week;
