Mino Obigiwasin Anicinape Child & Family Services was established to provide child and family services to its population. This initiative follows an agreement signed with the CISSSAT for the management of youth protection services for the four Anicinape communities: Kitcisakik, Lac Simon, Abitibiwinni (Pikogan), and Long Point (Winneway). Mino Obigiwasin's vision is to ensure that all Anicinape children and families have a stable, safe, happy living environment that is deeply rooted in their culture.
JOB SUMMARY
In alignment with the mission, orientations, values, and general policies of the organization, the Information Officer and Facilitator, under the supervision of the AIF and ADSP Coordinator, works in collaboration with Mino Obigiwasin practitioners and community members. They facilitate communication between service providers and the population, raise awareness, and inform Anicinape parents about their rights and the youth protection system—all while demonstrating respect and compassion. They also guide families toward appropriate care and services.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITY
- Promote the Wawiya approach among the organization’s intervention teams
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of Wawiya by encouraging the emergence of new ideas
- Participate in community activities to inform and raise awareness about:
- Youth protection
- Frontline preventive services
- Other services available in the communities
- Respond to questions from community members, Mino Obigiwasin practitioners, and partners regarding Wawiya
- Plan and facilitate Wawiya gatherings or other family conferences (the role of the Wawiya facilitator is like that of a group intervention or sharing circle facilitator);
- Address dissatisfaction or conflict between parent(s) or child(ren) and youth protection services, including foster families caring for a child under the Youth Protection Act (YPA)
- Support the implementation of initiatives and concrete solutions aimed at keeping children within their communities
- Foster partnerships between services by participating in the development or revision of collaboration protocols and by contributing to community-level child and family roundtables.
REQUIREMENTS
- Diploma in Social Work Technology or equivalent
- Knowledge of the assigned community
- Ability to take initiative and work independently, in small groups, and as part of a team, in a complementary and collaborative manner
- Good listening skills, attention to detail, resourcefulness, flexibility, and patience
- Knowledge of the youth protection system and its enabling legislation (Youth Protection Act)
- Comfortable with intervention and group facilitation
- Knowledge of Anicinabemowin is an asset
- Willingness to travel frequently to the community
- Class 5 driver’s license
- Bilingualism in French and English (Winneway community)).
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Permanent full-time position, 35 hours per week
