Two research officer positions

Mino Obigiwasin is an Anicinape organization established to provide child and family services under a delegation agreement signed with the Abitibi-Témiscamingue Integrated Health and Social Services Center for four Anicinape communities: Kitcisakik, Lac Simon, Pikogan (Abitibiwinni), and Long Point (Winneway). Mino Obigiwasin's vision is to ensure that all Anicinape children and families have a stable, safe, happy, and culturally rooted living environment.

The band councils of the participating communities have mandated Mino Obigiwasin to carry out the work necessary to develop an Anicinape law that reflects the values, practices, and realities of their communities. A working group, the Anicinape Inakonigewin team, has been created to develop this project. This team operates under the supervision of the organization's executive director.

JOB SUMMARY

Mino Obigiwasin is seeking to fill two research officer positions within the team responsible for developing the Anicinape Act. The position is full-time (35 hours/week) under the supervision of the Anicinape Inakonigewin team coordinator.

In accordance with the organization's mission, guidelines, values, and general policies, the incumbent plays an active role in preparing consultations with the Anicinape population who are members of Mino Obigiwasin for the development of the Anicinape Law, as well as in analyzing the data collected. He/she participates in methodological and strategic discussions related to the development of the Act.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop reviews of promising writings and initiatives in Indigenous child and family services.
  • Collaborate in the development of documents needed for various community consultations.
  • Participate in community consultations and ensure data collection.
  • Participate in the analysis of results.
  • Document the consultation process.
  • Participate in the drafting and submission of consultation summaries, protocols, and results reports.
  • Participate in meetings of the Act's development committees, as required by the Anicinape Inakonigewin team.
  • Perform any other related tasks.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Master's degree in social work, psychoeducation, criminology, or any other relevant discipline.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Indigenous studies is an asset.
  • Experience working in Indigenous contexts.
  • Relevant experience in youth protection or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience as a research officer or research professional in one of the following fields: social work, psychoeducation, criminology, or other relevant discipline.
  • Fluency in spoken and written French and English.
  • Good knowledge of research methodology in Indigenous settings.
  • Good knowledge of child and family services in Indigenous environments.
  • Good understanding of the health and social services sector, its administration, and its legal framework.
  • Proficiency in office software: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS

  • Permanent full-time position, 35 hours per week.
