Mino Obigiwasin Anicinape Child and Family Services was established to provide child and family services to its population. This follows an agreement signed with CISSSAT for the management of youth protection for the four Anicinape communities: Kitcisakik, Lac Simon, Abitibiwinni (Pikogan), and Long Point (Winneway). Mino Obigiwasin's vision is to ensure that all Anicinape children and families have a stable, safe, happy living environment rooted in their culture.

JOB SUMMARY

In accordance with the mission, guidelines, values, and general policies of Mino Obigiwasin, the incumbent is responsible for providing youth protection services with the aim of engaging children, their parents or legal guardians, and community resources in developing solutions to the difficulties and challenges they face.

Reporting to the Head of the Enforcement Unit and within the scope of responsibilities assigned by the Director of Youth Protection (DPJ), the caseworker aims to resolve situations that compromise a child’s development or safety and to prevent their recurrence. In the performance of their duties and in the implementation of the agreement on voluntary measures or the court order, the incumbent works closely with an interdisciplinary team and in partnership with community resources.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide follow-up care for children and adolescents in their natural or substitute environments, in accordance with the Youth Protection Act;
  • Provide support, guidance, and assistance to at-risk youth and their families by conducting psychosocial interventions on an individual, family, or group basis;
  • Develop and implement, in collaboration with them, an intervention plan aimed at ending the situation of risk, based on an assessment of the child’s and family’s situation;
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team and other partners, including the extended family and community resources, in a context of exchange and complementarity;
  • Provide referrals to appropriate resources and follow up on them, if necessary;
  • Submit recommendations to the DPJ regarding the plan and measures applicable to the situation of youth under supervision;
  • Ensure compliance with and enforcement of child protection measures (voluntary or court-ordered);
  • Act as a petitioner before the Youth Court when required and testify there as needed;
  • Actively participate in and contribute to various projects, clinical or administrative meetings, and working groups related to their duties;
  • Perform administrative tasks related to maintaining physical and electronic records, including writing reports.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Hold a bachelor’s or technical degree in social work, psychoeducation, special education, criminology, juvenile justice intervention, or an equivalent degree;
  • Relevant experience in youth protection services;
  • Knowledge of and experience working in First Nations communities is a plus;
  • Class 5 driver’s license.

JOB CONDITIONS

  • Maternity leave replacement through December 2027, with the possibility of extension;
  • Full-time temporary position (35 hours per week);
